What to Expect When Working With Me

By Bekk Millwood – Founder, Fitness Lifestyle International
For those who don’t know me yet, my name is Bekk Millwood and I’m the Founder and Head of Talent at Fitness Lifestyle International. FLI is a specialist recruitment agency and consultancy dedicated to the fitness, wellness and lifestyle industries. We partner with boutique studios, super boutique clubs, multi-sites, health & wellness clubs, and growing brands to attract, place and retain high-quality talent across leadership, coaching, sales and head office roles. Our focus is on cultural alignment as much as capability, helping businesses build teams that perform well, represent their brand strongly and support long-term growth rather than short-term fixes.
I’ve spent over three decades immersed in the fitness and wellness industry, working across market leading & boutique brands, leadership teams, and for the past 10 years, recruitment, head hunting and consulting has been my world.
My work today sits at the intersection of people, culture, and employer brand. Helping premium brands build teams that are not only capable, but genuinely aligned with who they are and where they’re going.
When clients engage me, they’re partnering with someone who understands their world, speaks their language and cares deeply about the people who will represent their brand, and shape the future of their business.
My approach is built on one core belief: great businesses are built by great people, and great people choose environments where they feel seen, supported and inspired.
Here is what you can expect when we work together.
I Take the Time to Understand Your Business Properly
Before a single job ad is written or a candidate is contacted, I spend time learning your brand story and market reputation, your leadership style and values, your commercial goals and growth plans, the culture you want to protect or evolve, and the type of personalities that truly thrive in your environment.
This is never a surface-level briefing. I want to understand how your team operates day to day, how decisions are made, and what success actually looks like beyond KPIs. The more I know, the better I can represent you to the right people.
Strategy Before Speed
Recruitment can move quickly, but the right recruitment moves intentionally.
You can expect clear role scoping, salary benchmarking, advice on market competitiveness, authentic positioning of your opportunity, a defined sourcing and engagement plan, and transparent timelines.
Rushed hiring often leads to replacement hiring. I would always rather do it once and do it well.
Premium Employer Brand Positioning
In competitive markets, the best talent chooses employers the same way employers choose talent. How you present your business matters.
I support clients with role marketing that inspires applications, clear articulation of benefits and growth pathways, messaging that attracts aligned candidates rather than volume for the sake of it, and visual or written collateral where required.
The goal is not more applicants. The goal is better-aligned applicants.
High-Quality Candidate Experience
Candidates remember how they are treated, even when they are not selected. This directly impacts your reputation.
I communicate clearly and professionally, provide honest feedback where appropriate, prepare shortlisted candidates thoroughly before interviews, and represent your brand with integrity at every touchpoint. Every interaction is an extension of your employer brand.
Honest Advice, Even When It’s Uncomfortable
Partnership means transparency. I will always provide realistic insights, including when salary expectations are misaligned with the market, when role scope is too broad or unclear, when internal processes may be affecting hiring success, or when cultural alignment needs attention.
This is not criticism. It is collaboration aimed at long-term success.
Testimonials That Reflect the Experience
Clients often tell me that what stands out most is the balance between professionalism and genuine care.
“Bekk quickly understood our needs and provided highly qualified candidates aligned perfectly with our values. The entire process was smooth and professional.” Kathryn Woodfine, Franchise Owner, Jetset Pilates
“Her dedication and ability to build strong, positive relationships were pivotal in our successful hiring processes. She understands culture as much as capability.” James Garland, CFO, One Playground
These reflections mean a great deal because they highlight not just outcomes, but the experience of working together.
Industry-Embedded Knowledge
My work is deeply rooted in the fitness, wellness and lifestyle sectors. I understand the difference between operators, instructors, sales leaders and head office roles. I understand boutique versus franchise versus multi-site environments. I understand how culture, community and leadership presence influence retention and performance.
This means clients do not need to educate me on their world. I am already in it.
A Relationship, Not a Transaction
My strongest partnerships are ongoing. I work alongside founders, c-suite, general managers and leadership teams as a trusted extension of their people strategy.
Beyond single hires, this often includes talent pooling for future growth, employer branding advice, team structure planning, succession mapping and campaign-based recruitment support. I am invested in where your business is going, not just the vacancy you have today.
Measurable Outcomes
Recruitment is still a commercial function, and outcomes matter. You should expect reduced time to hire without compromising quality, higher retention through cultural alignment, stronger leadership pipelines and candidates who contribute rather than simply occupy a role.
Success is not filling a seat. It is placing someone who elevates the team around them.
What It Comes Down To
Sometimes hiring is about filling vacancies quickly, especially when roles are business-critical and pressure is high. The difference is doing it with enough clarity and judgement that speed doesn’t come at the expense of fit.
Whether the need is immediate or part of a longer-term plan, the goal is the same: bringing in people who can step in, contribute and work well with the team around them.
If you’re hiring right now, planning ahead, or just want to talk through options, I’m always open to a practical conversation. Even a short discussion can help clarify next steps and avoid unnecessary churn.
Happy hiring!
Bekk
